Aviation is a complex industry. As a result many questions arise. The following is a list of those frequently asked.

Are there age requirements?

Yes! The minimum age depends on the licence you are attempting to obtain. Our Licences and Ratings section outlines the minimum age requirements. In any case, a person must be at least 14 years of age to fly an airplane solo (by themselves) and 16 years of age to obtain the most basic category of licence, the Recreational Pilot Permit.

How long does it take?

The ground school portion of the Private Pilot Licence takes 8 weeks to complete. This is based on 3 hours a day, 2 days per week. It can be completed much faster if done on a one-on-one basis.

The flight training depends entirely on your ability to schedule your flying. If a person flies twice a day, the Private Pilot Licence can be completed in about 1½ to 2 months. However, many cannot commit to flying twice a day therefore the average is approximately 6 months.

Do you have size requirements?

As long as a person can fit comfortably in the airplane and safely manipulate all of the flight controls, there are no size requirements.

Can I learn in my own airplane?

Yes, however prior to your first flight with one of our instructors, you will be required to obtain a Certificate of Insurance from your insurance company that states that our instructors are insured under your policy.

Are gift certificates available?
