Algonquin Flight Centre was founded in 1991 by a successful North Bay businessman. Since that time Algonquin Flight Centre has built a solid reputation as a leader in pilot training. It is not only highly regarded by the governing body of the aviation industry, Transport Canada, but also by the hundreds of students who have graduated from AFC over the years.

Located in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, Algonquin Flight Centre is in a perfect location to provide any of the courses and ratings that an aspiring pilot might require. Our school operates from the North Bay Jack Garland Airport, giving our students access to a full-scale airport facility with less air traffic than major centers, so once you are in the air, your training can begin.

Today, Algonquin Flight Centre is the largest flight training unit in Northern Ontario. It is managed by a first class team of dedicated aviation enthusiasts who all have extensive knowledge and experience in pilot training and in the aviation industry.

However, the key element to our success is the Training Programs that we have in place and the Flight Instructors that teach them.

During the past fifteen years, over 1,500 pilots have successfully graduated from Algonquin Flight Centre. We attribute much of this success to the training programs we use. This program was adapted by our Chief Flight Instructor, Ron McDonald, from the outstanding system used by the Royal Canadian Air Force/Canadian Armed Forces.

Our training programs combined with a low instructor to student ratio, normally 1:2, has resulted in a 99% success rate, so you can put your mind at ease. Ninety percent of Algonquin Flight Centre's Professional Pilot Package graduates find employment in the aviation industry.

Another prime example of the success of our programs are reflected in the fact that our Private Pilot candidates earn their wings after an average flight time of 60 hours. This is well below the national average of 92 hours.

There are only three institutions in Canada who use this method of training: the Canadian Armed Forces, Sault College of Applied and Technology, and Algonquin Flight Centre. Sault College is a government subsidized flight program that admits approximately 80 students per year but only graduates 30 to 35 students.

This makes Algonquin Flight Centre the only private Flight Training Unit that offers this structured method of training. Better still, we offer employment to over 50% of our Instructor graduates.

We pride ourselves in being able to meet and exceed all Transport Canada requirements in the minimum amount of time and money.
